Passing a kidney stone is very painful, but very easy to do. Only small kidney stones can be passed through urine as the diameter of your ureter is smaller than 5mm in size. Some stones can even lodge themselves inside a kidney or a ureter, making it more difficult to pass them out. Observe your water intake. Some may suggest 8-10 glasses of water (which is the normal water intake), but it would be better if you go for 10-12 glasses of water daily. You need to take more than that amount along with some dietary changes suggested by your doctor, if you experience formation of stones while drinking 8-10 glasses of water. Feeling waterlogged? Then drink some lemonade, but this is only effective if your kidney stones were confirmed to be made up of calcium.

A common way in passing a kidney stone is drinking lots of soft drink. You have heard that soft drink has high levels of citric acid, which is actually a good alternative therapy for softening stones. However, this is again only if your stone is made up calcium. Drink 2 liters of soft drink and follow it 5 minutes later with a glass of half-cooked green vegetable puree. Depending on the size of the stone, effect is felt within 24 hours.

Consume juice made up of all natural fruits and vegetables. These are rich in citrate that aids in dissolving stones made up of amino acids. While doing this, do remember to reduce your intake of foods rich in protein. Stay away from other foods and beverages that your doctor suggested. Do not cheat on the recommended daily intake, or the remedy will not be effective. Taking will make passing out a kidney stone difficult for instead of reducing the size, you will only make the stone bigger. You may need to have some medication to help you cope with the pain. Some NSAID’s medication are available over-the-counter. Ask your pharmacist what would be best to combat the pain for your condition. If pain is too intense that you are literally brought to your knees and you are vomiting, rush to the nearest hospital as the kidney stone is too big to be passed out by ordinary means.
